Dougie Graham takes up the Baton at Porthywaen Silver Band!

Porthywaen Silver Band is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Mark Douglas Graham (Dougie) as their Musical Director. Dougie is an experienced Royal Marine Bandmaster and has held a number of positions including Academic Instructor at the Royal Marine School of Music and Bandmaster of ‘The Royal Band’ based in Portsmouth.   Dougie is an accomplished musician and music teacher. He has been actively involved in Brass Bands for many years, playing cornet/trumpet and is currently a Trumpet tutor at the University of Wolverhampton a position he has held since 2012.

Dougie’s extensive Marine Brass Band experience and his skills as a tutor mean that he is ideally placed to work with the diverse members of Porthywaen Silver Band, who range from highly accomplished and experienced musicians with years of Brass Banding experience under their belt – to youngsters at the start of their musical journey.

“I feel I can bring a variety of teaching styles to encourage the less experienced musicians and yet develop the more advanced players.  It is my aim to ensure that all players are engaged and offered challenging opportunities to extend their repertoire.  I intend to ensure this is fun and uplifting, as well as structured and rewarding” – Dougie Graham

Porthywaen warmly welcome Dougie and look forward to a very exciting future working with him to bring Brass Band music alive for our members and audiences alike!
