Youth and Training Band would like to welcome Simon Fisher as their new Musical Director!

Simon is a primary school teacher specialising in music, maths and digital technologies. He works with junior-age children and particularly enjoys encouraging a love of singing, leading a successful and talented choir.

Simon is a keen musician and gains a lot of pleasure from playing the piano. He also plays the cornet, having taken up the instrument aged 7. He played in a brass band as a teenager and took up the instrument again after hearing Porthywaen Senior Band play a concert in Llanyblodwel in 2008. Simon says, “I really enjoy playing in the senior band – I get a lot of enjoyment from playing in an ensemble – a totally different experience to making music on your own! I also feel challenged on a regular basis by the demands of contests and concerts.”
Simon understands that the Youth and Training Band needs to be fun and stimulating whilst developing musical and technical skills in a caring and rewarding environment. He is delighted to have been appointed Musical Director of the band and is looking forward to the future with great optimism.
Simon and his wife have three children, the eldest of whom is learning percussion in the Beginners’ Band.
