Fancy going out for a picnic one August afternoon? Why not come down to Cae Glas Park Park on 15th August 2010, 2 till 4 pm where Porthywaen Silver Band will be putting on a live performance while you eat! There is a fantastic programme of Picnic in the Park events on Sundays, every fortnight to celebrate the Cae Glas Park Centenary - with a variet of superb local Brass Bands.

We have also added some new photos to our Image Gallery and created a new Videos section.

Twitter Feed Welcome to the Porthywaen Silver Band website.

The 'home' of the band is its own purpose built hall. It is in the village of Porthywaen which is some five miles to the south of Oswestry, Shropshire.

There are four main levels of playing within the band's organisation. There is a starter group where individuals are given basic instruction with an instrument. A beginners' group provides the next step in a player's musical development where first experiences are gained in group performance. The youth and training band takes beginners who have become sufficiently proficient to play more demanding music. The senior band is for accomplished musicians, regardless of their age.
