Mark Parry

Band: Porthywaen Silver Band

Mark Parry started his playing career aged 12 with St Albans City Band. He went on to study music at City of Leeds College of Music where he won the brass prize in his final year and then at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Whilst at the RNCM, he played for a spell with Fodens Band and Howard Snell. Also at this time he was fortunate to work with the Halle Orchestra, Opera North and the BBC Philharmonic.

After leaving college, Mark moved to Shropshire and has worked for many years as a peripatetic brass teacher both in the county and also in neighbouring North Powys where he is a tutor for the North Powys Youth Band.

Mark has been Musical Director of Porthywaen Silver Band for two and a half years, during which time they have had some success at contests and have been promoted back to the Second Section next year. He is also a guest conducts other local bands and has acted as Musical Director for local amateur operatic societies.

Besides conducting Porthywaen, Mark is also playing Bass Trombone for Wrexham Brass, a first section band.
