Ironbridge Gorge Festival 2006

Porthywaen Silver Band gave a joint evening concert with the Jackfield Band at the 2006 Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival. A large audience enjoyed a gala evening concert in the unique, outdoor setting of the old Maws tile works.

The second half of the concert involved the massed bands playing stirring and patriotic music. The audience responding splendidly with a great waving of national flags.

One very pleasant surprise for the Porthywaen Band was when Sir Charles J Soames Bt, presented the band with a certificate of appreciation. In his role as President of the Shropshire County of Royal British Legion, Sir Charles formally thanked the band for the contribution it makes to the Legion in Shropshire. The citation on the certificate reads: ?To Porthywaen Silver Band as a mark of esteem and appreciation for exceptional service?
