If you were watching BBC 2 last night at 9pm, then you would have spotted some members from Porthywaen Silver Band playing on Victorian Pharmacy.
At 8am on a cold Thursday morning in April, a small group of players from the Senior Band met at Blists Hill Victorian Village, Ironbridge to take part in a TV recording about a victorian pharmacy.

The band will also be playing in the park on 15th August 2010 2 till 4pm.

Getting up at 5am on a Sunday may not be everyone's idea of fun, but for the members of Porthywaen Silver Band it usually marks the beginning of a busy day, competing in a music contest, in this case the Wychavon Festival of Brass in Pershore. The real work had begun many weeks ago at the Band Hall in Porthywaen, where new Musical Director Mark Parry had embarked on a difficult program including traditional pieces mixed with modern compositions.
An enthusuastic audience was royally entertained at a youth concert at Porthywaen Band Hall recently.
The music was provided by the Youth and Training Band under the direction of Carol Stokes who had devised a rich and varied programme of music ranging from traditional brass band music to pop items.
Porthywaen Youth and Training Band enjoyed a busy and successful weekend recently. Friday night was the routine rehearsal session at the band hall.On Saturday, the band entered the Chester Competitive Festival of Performing Arts held at the King's School, Chester.
The Porthywaen youth summer concert will take place on July 4th at Porthywaen Band Hall, near Oswestry.
The Porthywaen Youth and Training Band, under the baton of Carol Stokes, will be joined by Porthywaen Beginners' Band, conducted by Aden Walker.
