Youth & Training Band

PYTB LogoThe earlist record available of a separate youth band is a photo from 1943. Over the last several decades there has been an established youth band rehearsing and taking on engagements and competitions in their own right.

The musical director of the band is Carol Jones. Carol is principle cornet in the Senior Band and is helped in her work with the Youth & Training Bandby other senior players. The Youth & Training Band had the honour of playing in the national finals of the Music for Youth Festival in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Rather a step up from the usual village halls and local places of worship. To mark this event, the youth band contributed the music they played on that occasion to the CD Best Foot Forward. The band has also had the honour of playing at the Duke of Westminster's house on the outskirts of Chester.

Youth BandMost of the players in the Youth & Training Band have graduated from the Beginner's Band. As with the Youth & Training Band, these players are of all ages - from primary school age to adults who have never got round to playing an instrument. The musical director of the Beginners' Band is Aden Walker who is a euphonium player in the Senior Band. Paul Sharp, a Bb bass player in the Senior Band, looks after a starter group, enabling learner to play basic scales before they move into the Beginners' Band.

The Youth & Training Band rehearse every Friday evening, 7:30pm - 9:15pm, at the Bandhall.

The image below was taken at the recent Summer concert held at the Bandhall which features both the Youth and Training Band and Beginners' Band.
