Category: Press Release

John is 92 years old and was a member of Porthywaen Silver Band from 1936 to 1941 when he inlisted in the army to fight in the II World War. John married his wife Kate after the war, and lives in Manchester.

John and his wife Kate along with other members of his family were entertained, by the  Porthywaen Beginners Band, under the Baton of Aden Walker.

"The youngsters are amazing and it brought back some wonderful memories" said John.

"I was a 2nd cornet player for Porthywaen Senior Band, and remember practising in a wooden shed near Llynclys Quarry. Things have certainly changed these days, the facilities are unbelievable and its a great credit to everyone at the Band for keeping this tradition alive and thriving."

After playing for John the members of the Beginners Band presented Mr and Mrs Morris with the latest CD produced by the Senior Band. This rounded off a wonderful evening of "Music and reminiscing". We look forward to seeing John and his family sometime in the near future.
