Congratulations to The Youth & Training Band who have triumphed at the Oswestry Music Festival!
Fabulous work yet again with outstanding performances!
This year was the 40th Anniversary of the Oswestry Youth Music Festival and not only the Youth Band, but also the Senior Band had the opportunity to play amongst former competitors and champions from the Festival in a one off celebratory concert.

The ‘home’ of the band is its own purpose built hall. It is in the village of Porthywaen which is five miles south of Oswestry, Shropshire in the village of Porth-y-waen, Llynclys.
The band always welcomes players who have moved into the area and there are no subscriptions, tuition or instrument hire fees.
There are four main levels of playing within the band’s organisation. There is a starter group where individuals are given basic instruction with an instrument. A beginners’ group provides the next step in a player’s musical development where first experiences are gained in group performance. The youth and training band takes beginners who have become sufficiently proficient to play more demanding music. The senior band is for accomplished musicians, regardless of their age.
The Beginners’ Band, shown right, provides basic tuition to enable players to audition for the Youth and Training Band. There are no age limitations on players who wish to start making music.
The Senior Band and the Youth and Training Band play at a variety of venues, mainly around Oswestry and the Welsh Marches. The Beginners’ Band perform at two annual concerts in the band hall. The youth and training band are pictured right after their Music for Youth performance.
